Beneficial bacteria grown in fermentation, then dried. The phrase fermentation product means you are getting the dried culture plus the medium it grew in.

Where it comes from: Industrial fermentation.
Why it's in the product: Gut microbiome support. Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus coagulans are the two with the most pet-specific evidence behind them.
Safety and toxicity: Safe. The realistic limitation is survival, not toxicity: many live cultures do not make it through extrusion, heat, and months of shelf storage, so the label claim can outlive the bacteria. Spore-forming species like Bacillus survive far better, which is why you increasingly see them.
Interactions and who should be careful: Worth discussing before use in severely immunocompromised pets, though problems are very rare.
